SRINAGAR, JUNE 15:
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday paid glowing tributes to veteran Journalist Syed Shujaat Bukhari, terming him a seer, intellectual and a person of a remarkable spirit who shall keep guiding Kashmir’s coming generations to tread the path of veracity and courage with impeccable will and determination.
The meeting of the PDP’s Political Affairs Committee was held at the party head office here and was presided over by party’s vice president Sartaj Madni.
The PAC meeting that highlighted and eulogized the remarkable contributions of Journalist Syed Shujaat Bukhari was attended by Abdul Rahman Veeri, Nizam-ud-din Bhat, Mehboob Beg, Mohammad Dilawar Mir, and Ghulam Nabi Lone.
The grieved leaders in the meet highlighted Bukhari’s role in reviving the lost Kashmiri language and how he acted as a pioneer after Great Poet Mehjoor to instill new life into the dying Kashmiri language by launching the first Kashmiri newspaper of the present times ‘Sangamal’.
The meet while underscoring the importance of the immense contributions in the field of literature and journalism done by Late Shujaat Bukhari, stated that the coming generations would find Bukhari as a torchbearer of steadfastness, courage and unbiased journalism.
PDP while expressing grief over Bukhari’s demise stated that those elements need to be identified and punished who want to rob Kashmir of its rich intellectual property and are hell-bent to push its people into the sea of insurmountable predicament and uncertainty.
The party spokesman added further that it was Bukhari’s unbending courage and unbiased approach towards its profession that gave sleepless nights to those people who always have been in the forefront to silence the saner voices of Jammu and Kashmir forever. “He was a lover of peace and made always relentless efforts as and when he got the opportunity through his forum. He lived an active and dynamic life, appeared on state’s horizon like a meteor and unfortunately disappeared but still making an indelible mark on the young minds that are always eager to contribute through pen and letters,” the leaders who took part in the Friday’s condolence meet said in a joint statement.
The spokesman said PDP as a party feels obliged to recall Bukhari’s contribution as a consistent crusader and despite being an independent journalist, will always consider his ideas as part of the party’s struggle for peace and reconciliation.
Party General Secretary Mansoor Hussain Sohrawardy, spokesman Rafi Ahmad Mir, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Mohammad Khalil Band, Noor Mohammad and several others also were present in the condolence meet beside the PAC members.
