‘Sikhs will protect daughters of Jammu and Kashmir in any circumstances’ said Sudershan Singh Wazir-Chainnan Sikh United Front. While addressing a joint press conference of various Sikh and Social organizations, Mr. Wazir said ‘That we as a community take strong exception to the statement of few leaders from outside the state who have said that after abrogation of Article 370 now they will bring girls from Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Wazir condemned in the strongest terms such derogatory and demeaning statement of people with polluted mindset who have no sense of sanctity of the Indian culture and ethos. The people making such statements have no place in Indian Civil Society and Politics. Mr. Wazir further said that History of Sikhs is replete with their valor and commitment towards the daughters of India and hundereds of years ago when Ahmed Shah Abdali raided India and apart from other loot, kidnapped hundreds of women on his way back, it was only Sikhs who fought him and liberated all those kidnapped women after sacrificing hundreds of Sikh lives. This spirit of Sikhism is still alive among all the Sikhs and we will fight till death to uphold the respect of Daughters, Sisters and Mothers of Jammu and Kashmir whether they are Dogras, Kashmiris or Ladakhis. Furthermore, Mr. Wazir added that Sikhs as a community appeal to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to maintain traditional communal Harmony in the state and pledged that Sikh Community will always act as a buffer between various sections of society to maintain the secular character of the state and the country/. He also appealed to every citizen of the state to remain peaceful and non violent and incase any section is unhappy with the Abrogation of article 370 then they should take recourse to Legal remedies and should desist from adopting violent means as this is against the Sufi culture of the state.
All the Sikh Organizations appealed to Govt. of India and the State Administration to immediately release the Mainstream Political Leaders and others who have been arrested in order to maintain the dignity of Democratic Traditions of India and its Constitution. They also demanded the lifting of restrictions on the citizens of the state and also remove the curbs on mobile phones, internet services and the citizens of the state should be allowed to integrate with the rest of the country.
