Six officials suspended post-Jammu accident

Jammu, May 31 :

A day after 22 people were killed and 65 injured, the Jammu and Kashmir Transport Department on Friday suspended six officials for alleged dereliction of duty.
The bus carrying pilgrims from UP towards Shiv Khori Shrine in Reasi district fell into a deep gorge near Tungi Morh in the Chowki Chora area of Akhnoor.
As per the order issued by the Transport Department, six officials deployed in Lakhanpur including a motor vehicle inspector

and a Junior Assistant at the check post have been suspended and attached to the office of the Transport Commissioner till a pending inquiry into dereliction of duty by allowing overcrowded bus into the Union Territory.
The suspended officers are Inspector Rajeev Bhasin, Junior Assistant Sumit Mangotra, Ashwani Kumar, Keshav Singh, Aman Kumar, and Rakesh Kumar.
The secretary of Transport has further ordered an in-depth enquiry into the allegations to be probed by Paramvir Singh, Additional Secretary (Technical).
“Inquiry officer has been asked to submit a report within a week,” said an official.
