SKUAST-J, Vice Chancellor inaugurated mega plantation drive organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Samba

KrishiVigyan Kendra (KVK), Samba under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) in collaboration with IFFCO jointly organised one day workshop on mega plantation drive for the welfare of the farmers at village and panchayat Rarian in Vijaypur tehsil of district Samba. More than 250 farmers have actively attended the programme.
Dr. K.S. Risam, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-J inaugurated the workshop as a chief guest with the planting of sapling in the premises of the panchayat land.Speaking on the occasion Dr. K.S. Risam thrown light on the various activities going on in the university and its constituents for the welfare of the farmers. He advised the farmers to take maximum benefit from the scientific staff of KrishiVigyan Kendra. He lauded the efforts of KVK Samba for the benefit of the farmers through various technical interventions in the district. He further highlighted the importance of trees in producing oxygen and sequestering carbon dioxide.
Dr. Vinod Gupta, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Samba in his technical address discussed about the mandates and functions of KVK and impressed upon farming community to visit KVK regularly for updating their knowledge.
He also told that KVK is a centre of excellence farm learning in the district. He also highlighted the importance of trees plantation with their multiple benefits. Earlier, Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Scientist in his welcome address pledged to continue the plantation of different agroforestrytrees in the district to keep Samba clean and green.Dr.Khajuria in his technical address elaborated in detail about the agrotechnology, economics and ecological importance of cultivating and planting shisham, tulsi, anardana, shami, neem and sukhchan in the district. He thanked SFRI/Department of Forest Samba for providing good quality of healthy saplings. He also stressed to plant multi-purpose trees to double the income as well as to save the environment from pollution and mitigation of climate change effects.
Sh. Swatenter Sharma, State Marketing Manager, IFFCO, J&K who graced the occasion, urged upon the farmer community to take maximum benefit from the Kisan Call Centre on the contact No. 18001801551 (toll free). He also promised the farmers to remain available for them for any type of help from IFFCO. He also appreciated KVK Samba for their untiring efforts for the benefit of the farmers.
Range forest officer, Purmandal, Mr. Mohd. Saleem also spoke on the occasion and lauded the efforts and cooperation from KrishiVigyan Kendra in promoting various agroforestry trees in the district. He also promised to provide every type of help to the KVK as and when required.
During programme,Dr.Abhay Sinha, Scientist, Agriculture Engineering demonstrated pit digger and its specifications. He also urged the farmers to go for farm mechanisation as their accused shortage of labour in the district. Dr.Saurav Gupta, Scientist, Entomologydiscussed in detail about the various harmful effects of pesticides which are used by the farmers in excess.
He urged upon the farming community to go for IPM practices in different crops for maximum production. More than 2000 healthy saplings of shisham, tulsi, anardana, shami, neem and sukhchan were also distributed among the farmers by the Vice Chancellor. Dr.Neerja Sharma (Scientist, Horticulture), Dr.SurajAmrutkar (Scientist, Animal Science) Mrs. Shalini, Mr Sahil, S. Pawandeep Singh, S. Tajinder Singh actively participated to make the event successful.
While delivering vote of thanks, SarpanchRarianNirmla Devi thanked KVK Samba for inviting Dr. K.S. Risam, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-J to their panchayat. She extended every type of help from her panchayat to KVK as and when required.
