In its quest to further the pursuit of the Government of India for the strengthening of last man in the last line in the deprived sections of the society, All India Coordinated Research Project on Dryland Agriculture (AICRPDA), RakhDhiansar is making strides to transform the socio-economic condition of farming community belongs to the scheduled caste through various agricultural initiatives in KotheySalehar village of Bishnah Block adopted under Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) component of AICRPDA-NICRA, RakhDhiansar, organized one day Farmers Training Programme under the aegis of SKUAST-Jammu. The purpose of organizing this orientation programmeis to sensitize the beneficiary farmers, belonging to scheduled caste section of the society, about the improved agriculture technologies for materializing the ambitious dream of the Government of India of doubling the farmers’ income. During the event, Scientists-Farmersinteraction was conducted to aware them about improved agri-technologies to enhance farm income while working on resource optimization at farm level. Besides this, high quality seed of wheat along with other critical production inputs were distributed among the farmers adopted under SCSP programme.
At the outset, Dr. A. P. Singh, Principal Investigator, AICRPDA, RakhDhiansar welcomed the targeted farmers group, other stakeholders and briefed them about various provisions and incentives bestowed under Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan component of AICRPDA-NICRA. Further, he informedthe gathering that the SCSP programmeis first of its kind being implemented by the Government of India by particularly focusing on farmers belonging to scheduled caste section of the society to transform their socio-economic status. He opined that the average operational land holding size are gradually reducing resulting in low levels of crop production and more so the farm income. High costs of production inputs coupled with changing climate further adds to apathy of the farmers and pushing them in a state of distress and keep them apart from being active contributor in the growth engine at local as well as national level.
Dr. Jai Kumar, Jr. Scientist (Agronomy) exhorted the farmers to adopt the scientific agronomical activities to increase the productivity of kharif crop and thereby making the farming a self reliant venture. Also he emphasized on adoption of climate smart agro technologies to improve their income only help in enhancing their yield but also maintains the ecological balance.
. Dr. A. P. Rai, Jr. Scientist (Soil Science) discussed integrated nutrient management practices for improving the productivity of wheat.
Er. Sunny Raina, shared his views on adoption of various agricultural implements to enhance and sustain the productivity of of rice-wheat cropping system.
The programme ended with formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Brinder Singh, Jr. Scientist (Soil Science). Sh. Partap Singh , Sarpanchalongwith other members from Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI’s) from Salehar (Lower) Panchayat of Bishnah Block, on behalf of the participating farmers thanked the AICRPDA-NICRA scientists for their relentless services and appealed to organize such activities in future also.
