THE SOCIAL MOVEMENT OF INDIA (SMI) organized a “Protest Rally against the J&K Police & Civil Administration” in front of the Press Club, Jammu on today alleging large scale bungling in the election of SARPANCH of “Bomal Sargampur” Panchayat Halqa of Tehsil Jourian, District Jammu and life threat to the only SC lady candidate Ms. Sunita Devi W/O Mr. Vijay Kumar along with whole of SC community living in Village Bomal.
Addressing the media persons, Mr. Ashok Kumar Basotra, a very senior Mulnivasi Bahujan Activist alleged that on 29th of November, 2018, the election of “SARPANCH” was conducted for Panchayat Halqa “BOMAL SARGAMPUR” and as the ward was reserved for ladies only, three ladies from Rajput Community and one lady from Scheduled Caste Community namely Ms. Sunita Devi W/O Mr. vijay Kumar were contesting for the same. The voting was conducted from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and the counting of votes was conducted from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. That the counting of Panches was concluded first and then the counting for the SARPANCH was started after the declaration of results for Panches. That in the last phase when the SC lady candidate Ms. Sunita Devi was winning the election, about 60/70 Rajput community persons with arms & ammunition in their hands entered the counting hall and threatened the police and the election staff present on the spot. Thereafter, the police left the counting hall to facilitate the goonda elements to eliminate SC lady candidate Ms. Sunita Devi, her husband Mr. Vijay Kumar and her father in law. Upon this, the election staff collected whole of the election material and ran away from the counting hall without declaring Ms. Sunita Devi as winning candidate. It is worth mentioning herein that no lady police was deputed for conducting said election despite the fact that the SARPANCH seat was reserved for ladies only. As the SC lady candidate Ms. Sunita Devi fell unconscious in the hall, the Rajput community goonda elements left the hall threatening whole of the SC community of the village of dire consequences. Since then, the Rajput community goonda elements are entering into the houses of the SC community people of the village who are facing continuous life threat from said goonda elements but neither the police nor any civil administration is taking any legal action against them.
