The annual sports festival of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) culminatedwith the closing ceremony wherein the winners were awarded prizes.The Sports festival, a semester long event, involves the participation of the students inathletics, badminton, basketball, chess, cricket, football, kabaddi, kho-kho, table tennis,tennis and volleyball in both male and female categories. The chief guest for the closingceremony was Prof. Pragati Kumar, the Vice Chancellor of SMVDU, who in his addressemphasized upon the importance of sports in life for learning discipline, team work, andperseverance besides attaining physical and mental health. He applauded the efforts ofthe organizers, participants and spectators in making the event happen. He alsoupdated about the new sports facilities being developed in the university for the benefitof students.
In the closing ceremony, medals to the winners and awards to the best players weredistributed by the chief guest along with the Registrar, Mr. Ajay Kumar; Dean, StudentsWelfare, Prof. R.K. Mishra, President, Board for Sports Activities, Dr. Parvez SinghSlathia, and Vice-President, Board for Sports Activities, Dr. Kamaldeep, The organizingbody for the sports festival, Board for Sports Activities (BSA) expressed gratitude to allthe departments of the university and especially students for their help and role inorganizing the festival. BSA extended special thanks to the Vice chancellor for hisunwavering support for conduct of sports activities in the university.
