The Association of Indian Universities (AIU), an apex body of Higher Education in the Country
is organizing its ‘North Zone Vice Chancellors’ Meet’ during 16-17, November, 2019. The Meet is being hosted by Shri Mata
Vaishno Devi University, Katra. Shri G C Murmu, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will inaugurate the Meet and will release the Special Issue of the University News, a Weekly Journal brought out by the Association of Indian Universities. The Meet will be presided over by Prof. Dr. (Mrs) Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General,
Association of Indian Universities. Vice Chancellor of the SMVDU (Host University), Prof. (Dr.) Ravindra Kumar Sinha will welcome the gathering. Senior Officers from MHRD, UGC, AICTE, Skill Ministry, NAAC and eminent experts of the field are also participating in the Meet apart from about 70 Vice Chancellors of the North Zone comprising of Delhi, Panjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, etc. The topic of the Meet is ‘Developing Employability and Entrepreneurship as Cornerstones in Higher Education’ Developing Employability and Entrepreneurship as cornerstones in higher education is the need of the hour. The link between employability, entrepreneurship and education is specifically valid for modern India as youth accounts for one third of India’s burgeoning population. As per Census 2011, Youth (15-24 years) in India constitutes one-fifth (19.1%) of India’s total population. This is expected to increase to 34.33%, i.e., the youth will constitute one-third of the total population by 2020. Higher education has the huge responsibility to cater to this large group, help it to realize its potential to become self reliant, self sufficient and financially secure and contribute to the society. The goal of this effort is to help Indian higher education system to reach out to one and all who aspire to seek higher education and contribute to the country by producing highly educated, skilled and mature intellectuals with strong moral character.In this Meet issues related to Developing Employability and Entrepreneurship as Cornerstones in Higher Education’ will be discussed.
