Chitrangada Singh is all set to don the mantle of producer with her very first production, Soorma, a biopic on former Indian hockey captain Sandeep Singh. Describing the experience of working as a producer in a traditionally male-dominated industry, Chitrangada says, “It’s very challenging, although more women are working now in the production as well as marketing spheres of filmmaking. Actresses like Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra and Dia Mirza have already shown the way by producing good quality films.”
She adds, “Since I’m a creative person, I focussed more on the emotions and creative aspects of Soorma while my partner Deepak Singh took care of the pivotal marketing and other production related jobs. Also, with Sony handling our production, everything went well. They are experienced and understood the significance of hockey player Sandeep Singh’s story.”The actress-turned-producer says she would love to be a catalyst for change, especially for causes like environmental issues, safety of women and children, to name a few. “We must channelise our anger against social injustices and violence through social media or through any other means. The media is doing a good job in unveiling the truth,” says Chitrangada.
With the rains hitting Mumbai with vengeance, the actress shares, “I love the monsoons. In fact, as kids, we would always enjoy the first showers. I enjoy the rains even now.”
As for her fitness mantra, Chitrangada reveals, “Fitness should be effortless. You need to enjoy yourself and be happy. I love travelling and enjoy fishing and trekking too. I take care of my fitness every single day. I try to eat a balanced diet and eat at regular intervals.”
