JAMMU, Oct 23:
Seven Sport climbers of Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK) left today for Indore to participate in the 2nd IMF All India Sport Climbing Competition (Lead and Speed) to be organized at Emerald Heights International School, Indore from tomorrow.
The team included Arun Deep Singh, a former national champion; Ritesh Sharma, a national medallist; Asma Gul and Ajay Deep Singh, both Zonal medallists; Rudra Partap Singh, Randeep Singh and Rahul Sharma.
Eighth member of the team Shivani Charak, an international climber, shall proceed to Indore from Delhi where she is undergoing rigorous training at the international standard climbing walls in the Indian Mountaineering Foundation complex.
“It is a very talented and a well balanced team with a blend of experience and an explosive raw talent, capable of winning a couple of medals in the national competition,” general secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria told SAN.
Pertinent to mention here that it is a must for the climbers to compete in the All India Competitions as it is on the basis of their performance in these competitions that IMF ranks the climbers and then invites them for training cum selection camp for various international Competitions as per their national ranking.
It may also be mentioned here that Shivani Charak who has already been selected to represent the country at the Asian Youth Championship at Chongqing, China has bright chances of selection for the Asian Championship to be held at Yoshi, Japan from November seven and November 11, if she wins a medal at the Indore competition.
Similarly, Ajay Deep Singh who secured 4th place in the All India competitions at Jamshedpur and Srinagar has a chance to improve his all India ranking at Indore which may facilitate his selection for an international sport climbing competition in future.
