Sports Saviours Football Club (SSFC) won the inaugural match of the 26th State Football Championship got underway at two venues of GGM Science College here and Synthetic Turf TRC, Srinagar simultaneously.
While two matches took place on the opening day at Jammu venue, four matches decided at Srinagar. The competition is being held on knock-out basis under the banner of J&K Football Association (JKFA). The enter the next round, SSFC defeated District Football Association (DFA) Poonch 2-1. Though SSFC conceded the first goal on a free kick taken by Akshay Luthra yet the young side fought back and equalised the score through Pawan Deep Singh. It was in the second half of the play that Taabish Ahmed netted the winning goal. In other scheduled match, SFA Jammu made it a solitary goal win against DFA Kishtwar. The only goal came through Varun Kumar in the 40th minute.
The technical penal included Rocky Sharma, Ajay Singh, Ricky Kumar, Abhishek, Dheeraj Meenia and Ajay Kumar.
In all, 24 teams are taking part in this competition from Jammu Division. Earlier, the competition at Jammu declared open by Chief Sports Officer (CSO) of the J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC), Abdul Qayoom, who interacted with the teams.
Among others present were president JKFA, ZA Thakur; Sheikh Mehmood (president DFA Jammu); Kuldeep Singh (vice president Jammu), Ramesh Chander (vice president Jammu), SM Gill, Fayaz Hamid, Nazir Ahmed, Varinder Gupta, Charan Dass and Yousaf Don.
Meanwhile, the completion at Srinagar declared open by Divisional Sports Officer of the JKSSC, Nuzhat Ara at Synthetic Turf, TRC. Again, 24 teams from Kashmir Division have been included in the competition.
The Results: Food and Supplies Club bt DFA Pulwama 5-0; DFA Baramulla bt Hajin Zone 2-1; Zone Pattan bt Rafiabad Zone 3-2; DFA Bandipora bt DFA Kulgam 7-0.
