Sports Saviours Football Club (SSFC), playing their only second competition, today became the first team to qualify for the quarterfinals of the ongoing Jammu leg of the State Football Championship, organised by the J&K Football Association (JKFA) at GGM Science College ground, here.
The young and competitive side of Sports Saviours blanked former League champion, Sainik Colony Football Club (SCFC) 3-0 to the surprise of the gathering of top JKFA officials and those veteran football players of the State.
Vinay opened the account for Sports Saviours in the 26th minute. The lead was improved by Pranav, who netted the ball in the 34th minute. Aditya made it a big win by scoring the third goal for the team in the 61st minute.
Now, in the quarterfinal game, scheduled for April five, Sports Saviours shall take on Shaheen FC. One of the top clubs of Jammu and defending League champion, Shaheen FC has been given direct entry into the quarterfinals along with three other teams.
Meanwhile, in another scheduled match of the day, DFA Leh defeated DFA Kathua 4-3 in a closely contested game.
Today’s matches officiated by the technical penal including Ajay Singh, Honey Mehra, Abhishek Kumar, Rocky Sharma, Dheeraj Meenia, Ricky Kumar and Vijay Kumar.
Prominent among those who witnessed today’s matches were Kuldeep Singh (vice president, JKFA), Ramesh Chander (vice president, JKFA), Varinder Kumar, Charan Dass, Amardeep Singh and Rajesh Kumar.
