Shri Ram Sena, Jammu and Kashmir Unit, on Thursday expressed resentment against collection of road tax at Sarore toll plaza on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway, accusing the BJP of imposing road tax on people to further loot them amid the ongoing inflation and economic crisis.
Support the ongoing agitation against collection of road tax at Sarore toll plaza, SRS State President Rajiv Mahajan sought immediate abolition of the tariff to assure people of hassle-free movement of vehicles.
He said the toll plaza on the highway has been set up by the government of the BJP party which opposed the same a few years back when it was in opposition in Jammu and Kashmir State.
Rajiv Mahajan said the BJP government at the Centre first imposed heavy traffic penalties on the people by amending the Motor Vehicle Act and it is now forcibly installing toll plazas in Jammu region.
These entry-exit points would not only break the back of the people with hefty taxes but deeply hurt the religious faith of the Hindus all over the country who visit Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine to pay their holy obeisance, he said.
He said a common man who finds it difficult to arrange two square meals a day will find it difficult to pay so much money just to travel on roads.
“When Union Territories across Country don’t have any toll, why Jammu and Kashmir is facing Toll and their charges are also higher than Toll in any other part of the country,” questioned Rajiv Mahajan.
“On one hand government abolished Toll Tax in Srinagar from the civilians but on the other hand Toll Tax in Jammu region from Toll Plaza Ban and now at Sarore have been continued is great discrimination with Jammuites,” he lamented.
Strongly opposing the PDD proposed massive tariff hike, Rajiv Mahajan alleged that after the abrogation of Article 370 the J&K common man is burdened with heavy load of taxes and fines and such move of will break the backbone of common man.
Mahajan appealed to Governor Satya Pal Malik to take the matter seriously and order immediate abolishing of toll tax at Sarore and bring back the proposed Power tariff hike in the state.
