JAMMU, MAR 09:
On the occasion of Women Day, All Women Operated Branch of UCO Bank was inaugurated here today at Bachiter Complex in Chowdhian area.
The branch was inaugurated by SSP Traffic Nisha Nathyal, in the presence of Branch Manager Gurmeet Kour, Assistant Manager Aparna Chouhan and Sonali Saberwal.
Addressing during the inauguration ceremony, Branch head Gurmeet Kour said that the branch will offer a comprehensive range of loans and deposits including saving, current and term deposits, auto loans, personal loans along with credit cards, mutual funds and investment services.
“The setting up of the only women Bank is a small step towards economic empowerment of our women. The sad reality is that women in India face discrimination and hardship at home, school, at their places of work and in public places. Women’s social, economic and political empowerment remains a distant goal. We have gathered here to witness the beginning of a unique institution,” she said, adding, “The bank will provide financial services predominantly to women and women self-help groups.”
Speaking on the occasion, SSP Traffic, Nisha Nathyal, who was the chief guest during the inauguration ceremony said that aimed at offering customized banking solutions to women, the UCO bank has done a very good work.
“I am very happy to launch a bank entirely operated by women on Women’s Day to celebrate womanhood. There is no restriction in the customer base as we serve male customers as well,” she said.
“Women play an important role in managing household savings and we believe that this ‘All Women Branch’ will help increase the participation of this segment in the banking industry,” she added.
“The all women branch is part of a two pronged approach by UCO Bank; to promote women leadership in financial services sector and enable the evolving financial objectives of women,” said Assistant Branch Head, Aparna Chouhan.
Among others, who were present during the inauguration function included AIBOC General Secretary Ramesh Tracaroo, Dy. SP Ranu Kundal and SI Arti Thakur.
