JAMMU, Mar 11:
The 17th J&K State Athletics Championship, organised by J&K Amateur Athletics Association in association with University of Jammu under the auspices of J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC) and J&K Olympic Association (JKOA), got underway at JU grounds, here.
The three-day event was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor of JU, Prof MK Dhar in the presence of Registrar, Dr Minakshi Kilam, Dean Students Welfare, Prof Shailendra Singh Jamwal and Director Sports, Daud Iqbal.
Among others present were general secretary of JKOA, Dr Ashutosh Sharma, Suneel Mahajan (president) and Sharat Chander Singh (general secretary), J&K Athletics Association, Sarwant Singh Gill, Rajan Sharma, Vikas Gupta, Vinod Bhatia, Ramesh Sharma, Nirmal Singh, PD Singh, Jai Bharat, Gurcharan Singh, B L Tickoo and Sahil Raina.
However, the competition could not be held on the opening day due to rains. The organising committee has rescheduled the events for tomorrow in both field and track events.
“Since there was hardly any competition on the opening day today, the technical penal has to follow a hectic schedule tomorrow. We are hopeful of completing most of the events on the second day by making it an early,” general secretary of the Association, Sharat Chander Singh told SAN.
