JAMMU, Oct 16:
Eight sport climbers of Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK) who have been selected to participate in the 2nd IMF All India Sport Climbing Competition (Lead and Speed) to be held at Indore from October 24 to October 27 today left for Delhi for a five days specialized coaching cum practice camp at Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF). The team includes Shivani Charak, an international Climber, Arun Deep Singh, a former national champion, Ritesh Sharma, a national medalist, Asma Gul and Ajay Deep Singh, both Zonal medalists, Rudra Partap Singh, Randeep Singh and Rahul Sharma, all very talented upcoming climbers.
“The aim of the camp is to prepare the team to its full potential for the National Competition by exposing it to the international standard climbing infrastructure including a 50ft high lead climbing wall and Speed climbing wall with star holds and an international standard bouldering Gym. Importantly, in our state we do not have the standard climbing infrastructure on which All India Climbing Competition is going to be held,” informed general secretary of the MAJK, Ram Khajuria.
It may also be mentioned here that Shivani Charak who has already been selected to represent the country at the Asian Youth Championship at Chongqing, China has bright chances of selection for the Asian Championship to be held at Yoshi, Japan from November seven to November 11, 2018, if she attains a podium finish at Indore competition. Similarly, Ajay Deep Singh who secured 4th place in the All India competitions at Jamshedpur and Srinagar has a chance to improve his all India ranking at Indore which may facilitate his selection for an international sport climbing competition in future.
