State Sport Climbing meet from August 4

JAMMU, July 10:
Organised by the Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK), the two-day 18th J&K State Sport Climbing Championship shall be held in collaboration with Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab here from August four.
About 200 climbers from various districts of the state including Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Samba, Kathua, Anantnag, Srinagar, Badgam and Ganderbal besides Pulwama, Poonch, Rajouri and Doda shall vie for honours in this competition. “In case the participation exceeds 200 climbers, preliminary rounds of certain categories for Jammu district climbers shall be conducted a day earlier,” general secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria told SAN.
The competitions shall be held in eight categories of Men, Women (born in 2001, 2000 and earlier), Boys- Girls (born in 2002, 2003 and 2004), Sub Junior Boys-Girls (born in 2005 and 2006) and Mini Boys-Girls (born in 2007 and after).
Except for Mini Boys and Girls, who shall participate in ‘Lead Climbing’ only, participants in all other categories shall compete both in ‘Lead climbing’ and ‘Speed Climbing.’
Whereas a national judge in sport climbing Mitra Ghosh from Delhi shall be the President of the Jury, another national Route Setter also from Delhi shall be the Chief Route Setter of the competition. The national technical officials shall be assisted by qualified local officials Shashi Kant Sharma, Manik Slathia and Ambreen Fatima (Belayers) and Himani Choudhary, Deepa Dutta and Sakshi Magotra (State level Judges) Other technical and logistic support shall be provided by Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee, New Delhi. The championship is being organized under the aegis of IMF North Zone Committee and has been sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
