POONCH, Nov 15:
The three-day State Senior Men Volleyball Championship, organised by Shaheed Manjit Singh Memorial Club under the aegis of Volleyball Association of Jammu and Kashmir (VAJK) in coordination with J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC), declared open by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Poonch, Rahul Yadav at Government Degree College (GDC) Campus, here today.
District Police chief, Rajiv Pandey, Principal of GDC Poonch graced the inaugural function as guests of honour. The opening day witnessed beginning of the league round among 16 participating teams divided into two groups.
Earlier, the chief guest and other distinguished gathering welcomed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the VAJK, Kuldeep Magotra amidst a brief of the mega event. He informed that the association recently conducted similar state level in Junior boys and girls at Srinagar. It will be during this competition that the Association shall be picking up the probable for the upcoming National Championship to be held in Chennai.
The CEO was all praise for the chairman of Shaheed Manjit Club, Mohd Tariq for his support and involvement in the whole event.
Other dignitaries present were Krishna Lal Sharma (vice president, RC Sharma (treasurer) of the VAJK and prominent sports persons Volleyball lovers.
Earlier, a rally taken out around Poonch city highlighting the menace of ‘Drug Abuse’ and spreading message to the youth about ill effects of drug addiction. The rally was organised by the J&K Excise
Department which culminated at the venue of the competition.
The Results: League Round: Poonch bt J&K Police 2-1 (25-19,22-25, 15-05); Kathua bt Baramulla 2-0 (25-20, 25-22); Srinagar bt Udhampur 2-0 (26-24, 25-19); Jammu bt Rajouri 2-0 (25-17, 25-17); Pulwama bt Ramban 2-0 (25-15, 25-09); Baramulla bt Kulgam 2-0 (25-14, 25-18); Jammu bt Anantnag 2-0 (25-16,25-17); Poonch bt Ramban 2-0 (25-13, 25-13).
The technical penal in today’s matches comprised Amit Sharma, Neeraj Sharma, Naresh Kumar, Ashiq Hussain, Shafqat Shah, Asif Ali, Sidharth Bhati and Mohd Sabar.
