It was a great movement for the BJP when 17.5 meter high statue of great ideologue Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee was installed and unveiled at Mookherjee Chowk, Kathua, by Union MoS in PMO Dr. Jitendra Singh, alongwith National Vice-President Avinash Rai Khanna, National Secretary & former MP Mahesh Giri, State President Ravinder Raina, MP Shamsher Singh Manhas, Speaker Dr. Nirmal Singh, MLC Ashok Khajuria in a party function.
Dr. Jitendra Singh, while addressing a massive gathering after unveiling the statue, said that although Dr. Mookherjee was not born in Jammu & Kashmir but his sacrifice in the state gave a message that nation and interests of the nation were paramount for an Indian and that there should be no barrier in relations between the Union of India and this border state.
Avinash Rai Khanna said that the installation of the statue of Dr. Mookherjee is a real tribute to the supreme sacrifice which culminated into abolishing Permit system and allowing the free flow of people to J&K without any prior permission.
Ravinder Raina said that the contribution of Dr. Mookherjee in uniting the nationalist people of the state under the umbrella of “Ek Vidhan Ek Nishan Ek Pradhan” agitation would always be remembered. The unveiling of statue is not only a tribute to the great leader but a pledge as well to carry forward and complete the unfinished agenda.
Dr. Nirmal Singh spoke on the struggle full life of Dr. Mookherjee and said that he left the luxuries of life and led a movement for the cause of nation. He said that the rare personality like him wrote a new chapter in the history by setting example of serving the motherland selflessly.
Former MP Mahesh Giri said that nation always remembers the leaders who contribute in nation building or sacrifice their life for a national cause.
Kavinder Gupta said that although belated but it has fulfilled the long cherished dream of millions of BJP activists.
State General Secretary (Org.) Ashok Kaul, described Dr. Mookherjee as man of principles who worked on the line of nation first, party second and self last. He said that the present day cadre of party should take inspiration from the life of this man who faced atrocities and died in mysterious circumstances in Srinagar.
Former Minister Rajeev Jasrotia said that it is an honour for Kathua people that the statue of Dr. Mookherjee will remind masses that how people like Dr. Mookherjee gave their lives to bring this state more closer to India.
Kathua District President Premnath Dogra thanked the party activists for making the programme a successful event. He also applauded the idea of installation of statue at Kathua within limited span of three years.
