Ch Manmohan Singh, President All India Jat Maha Sabha, J&K, and former Mayor urged the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Samba Administration to stop the mafia from grabbing land from displaced persons hailing from Chhamb area, who migrated to Samba in 1965 and were allotted land in Barian and adjoining places in 1968 as the prices of these land chunks are touching skies after the work on AIIMS started here.
Earlier, members of Jat community residing in Village Barian district Samba, adjoining to AIIMS called on Ch Manmohan Singh and apprised him about the issues and problems which the community is confronting after the work of AIIMS construction started in the nearby stretch of land. They told Ch Manmohan that they had migrated from Chhamb area in 1965 and in 1968 Government allotted agricultural land which is still in their possession and one whole generation has toiled hard to make these land chunks cultivable. They alleged that certain unscrupulous elements are trying to grab their lands falling near the AIIMS as the prices have soured.
After going through whole issue, Ch Manmohan warned the land mafia to desist from doing any misadventure in the area and also appealed to the government to safeguard the interests of the people of the aforesaid area. He said that certain unprincipled elements are trying to grab this land on the pretext of some old disputes as was informed by the Barian residents’. He said that government in principle had agreed that if at any point of time anyone will stake claim on these land chunks these displaced persons will be the rightful owners of the land and no claim whatsoever will be entertained.
Talking on the issue of delay in displaced persons’ relief package, Ch Manmohan Singh said that these persons are already moving from post to pillar for getting this package but now the injustice will not be tolerated. He assured that soon he will take up the matter of relief package of Displaced Persons lying before the government as many of the community members are still devoid of this much required benefit. He also said that OBC status is necessary for the upliftment of the children of displaced families and very soon a convention will be held to make community members united on the issue as the community will not sit quite over the issue and continue to struggle till the goal is achieved.
Ch Manmohan made it clear that the BJP government cannot deny OBC status as all other states have given this right and J&K now being completely united with the country after abrogation of Article 370 cannot say no to its eligible residents. He said that denying this right to Jats is in contrast with BJP’s slogan of Ek Nishan Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan therefore the government headed by the Saffron Party should give its nod for granting OBC status to Jats.
