The activists of National Panthers Students Union (NPSU), Young Panthers and National Panthers Party observed 53rd Student Martyrs Day at Memorial Site in front of GGM Science College, Jammu. The four students were martyred on October 17 & 18, 1966 by the brutal police firing. Three students Brijmohan, Gulshan Handa & Subhash Chand were gunned down in the full public view on the grounds of Gandhi Memorial Science College, Jammu on October 17, 1966. Gulcharan Singh @Pissu was martyred by the police in the Rajender Bazar on October 18, 2019.
On the intervention of the then Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi a commission of inquiry was ordered which found police guilty.
The Memorial Day was observed today by several students, youth and political groups at the Memorial Site which was raised in front of GGM Science College, Jammu when this site was raised as memorial by the Students Congress leaders who were leading the movement for the students for justice and equity.
Several prominent persons, student and youth leaders paid tributes to the student martyrs.
The prominent among them who paid tributes included JKNPP General Secretary, Ms. Anita Thakur, Capt. Anil Gour, Baldev Singh, Tarsem Rakwal, Mr. Sunil Sharma, Advisor-JKNPP Mr. Bansi Lal Sharma, Advocate and several other youth and student leaders paid tributes to the student martyrs.
