UDHAMPUR, NOV 18:
Senior leader of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) and District President, Udhampu, Sunil Verma, today met with the Deputy Chief Minister during his visit to Udhampur and submitted a detailed memorandum outlining urgent public concerns requiring immediate intervention.
During the meeting, Sunil Verma highlighted several pressing issues impacting the lives of residents in Udhampur and the broader region. Key points raised in the memorandum include the delay in clearing MGNREGA liabilities, which has caused significant hardship for rural workers, and the urgent need to revive the industrial policy that once fostered local growth under the leadership of Dr. Farooq Abdullah. Verma emphasized the necessity of providing incentives for local industries and imposing protective measures against imported finished goods to safeguard the local economy.
Sunil Verma also underscored the importance of infrastructure development, drawing attention to the sluggish pace of the Udhampur parking project and delays in the Salmay Bridge and Dhar Road to Majalta Bridge projects. He urged the Deputy CM to fast-track these initiatives to improve regional connectivity and economic prospects.
Another critical concern raised was the need for a revised mining policy that prioritizes local stakeholders and eliminates corruption through transparent, fully online systems.
Sunil Verma also called for stringent regulation of the liquor trade to ensure the availability of quality products and prevent overpricing, which has led to unfortunate incidents in the region.
To boost employment and economic growth, Sunil Verma proposed the establishment of three new industrial estates in Udhampur at Tazoor (Majalta Block), Tikri Maan, and Seen Takran, requesting expedited action to make these projects a reality. He also advocated for the regularization of thousands of daily wagers and a new recruitment policy focused on local youth, ensuring their postings align with their home districts.
The senior NC leader conveyed the high expectations of the people from the INDIA Alliance and reiterated the National Conference’s commitment to addressing public grievances. He urged the Deputy CM to take immediate and concrete steps to resolve these issues and restore public trust through proactive governance.
The Deputy CM assured Sunil Verma that the NC government headed by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would prioritize these concerns and work towards their timely resolution, bringing relief and progress to the people of Udhampur.
