District Social Welfare Department today hosted sports events at Louis Braille School for sightless girls Rooonagar to spread voter awareness among the specially abled students and encourage them to exercise their right to vote in the J&K Assembly Elections-2024.
Around 300 people, including school students, government functionaries and civil society members participated in the program.
District Social Welfare Officer Mamta Rajput and her team informed the students regarding the special facilities available for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) at polling booths and the use of SAKSHAM App launched by ECI. The awareness program was held under the SVEEP initiative.
The students were engaged by hosting different indoor and outdoor sports events including badminton, judo, chess, Carrom board and tug of war in which around 60 specially abled children participated. The event also featured solo singing, group singing and poetry competition with the electoral Education theme. The young voters were educated regarding Saksham App and various facilities being provided by the election commission at the polling booths for persons with disabilities including ramps, wheelchairs etc.
The participants, through the medium of the event, urged all the PwD voters of district Jammu to participate in the election process by casting their valuable vote at the nearest polling booth on 1st of October -the third phase of Assembly Election-2024.
Akhter Hussain Qazi, Nodal Officer SVEEP J&K, Sapna Kotwal, Nodal Officer Media were the chief guests on the occasion.
District Mission Coordinator, Mission Shakti Shagun Manchanda, Tehsil Social Welfare Officers, staff of Social Welfare Department, Mission Vatsalya were present on the occasion.
