Swimming season starts with prayers

JAMMU, May 14:
Young swimming enthusiasts had a cool day today when they dived into the fresh waters of the only swimming facility run by the autonomous sports body of the State Government, J&K State Sports Council (JKSSC), here at MA Stadium.
Those first timers were in a joyful mood while the experienced young men, who water waiting for the season to start, had a sigh of relief when they were allowed to enter the pool.
“If we compare the beginning of the new swimming season, we are late by around 10 days this time.
It was due to the bad weather and other unavoidable circumstances. Anyways, we have made a beginning and facility is open for the young and budding boys and girls to train,” said Manager Swimming Pool, Satish Gupta.
There was thick attendance of those registered swimmers on the day-one of the season. A good number of female swimmers also attended to the coaching sessions under the guidance of JKSSC swimming coach, Vikas Magotra. “We have also sold over 100 admission forms and expect a heavy rush this time. To cater to rush, we have already started three classes of one-hour each in the evening session, starting from 4 pm to 5 pm. As soon as the number increases, we will go for two morning sessions,” informed Gupta.
The first evening class was declared open by member JKSSC, Ranjit Kalra, who was accompanied by another member, Rahil Gupta.
Earlier, Joint Secretary, JKSSC, Shiv Kumar Sharma performed pooja in the morning to formally declare the pool open for the season. He was joined by senior coaches and officials of the JKSSC, including Divisional Sports Officer, Ravi Singh.
Meanwhile, Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra has send good wishes to Manager, Satish Gupta and his entire staff for the determined efforts i throwing open the pool in time.
