JAMMU, FEB 26: Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra today directed the state police chief to take strict measures to deal with the heavy traffic congestion, especially on Jammu -Srinagar highway, in the state.
The Governor inaugurated the 28th Jammu and Kashmir Police Public Mela at Police Sports Stadium at Gulshan Ground here.
Vohra raised the issue with Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid and asked him to take necessary steps to reduce the heavy congestion at the Ban Toll Post on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, where he has witnessed around 1 to 2 km-long queue of vehicles, an official spokesperson said.
At a stall by the J-K Police’s Traffic Wing, he discussed with the DGP the urgent need for taking strict measures for enforcing traffic management in the State.
Particularly, on implementing specific measures for reducing fatal road accidents, which are taking a heavy toll every month, the spokesperson said.
Vaid also briefed the Governor about the aims and objects of the fair and about the activities of the organisation which are aimed at the welfare of police personnel and their families, with special attention to widows and orphans.
The Governor interacted with the families of martyrs’, and lauded the efforts to promote the welfare of J-K Police.
