Nirmal Kumar, currently the most brilliant shining star of J&K, who scaled the Everest, the highest peak on the earth, last year and Kanchenjunga , the third highest and Manaslu the 8th highest peak in the world this year, was felicitated by Tawi Trekkers J&K at Press Club, here.
Nirmal Kumar, the first person from J&K to scale three different peaks above 8000 meters, was profusely garlanded by a galaxy of members of the club including its Chairman Anil Goswami, former Home Secretary, Government of India; Advisor Prof. Lalit Magotra; Co- Chairman Zorawar Singh Jamwal, secretary general Press Club of Jammu; president Ram Khajuria and general secretary, Shawetica Khajuria; Rahul Sharma, chairman, Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Jammu and a host of members of Mountaineering Association of J&K.
All the dignitaries congratulated Nirmal Kumar for his great achievements and wished him the best for his future endeavours. Besides Nirmal Kumar, two other mountaineers namely Ambreen Fatima and Narmita Katoch, who scaled Deo Tibba (6001meters) in Himachal Pradesh last month, in an expedition organized by NCC were also felicitated.
While felicitating Nirmal Kumar, who started mountaineering in 2015 and has emerged as one of the leading mountaineers of the country within a short span of three years, for his remarkable achievements in the field of mountaineering Ram Khajuria appreciated Nirmal Kumar’s passion for mountaineering as he displayed tremendous spirit and courage to attempt and scale Kanchenjunga, the third highest and then Manaslu peak (8163m).He described Nirmal Kumar as a true mountaineer and hoped that he would establish new benchmarks in mountaineering for mountaineers of the world.
Khajuria wondered the importance of the Everest when hundreds of people during the month of May every year, wait in a long queue for their turn to set their foot on Everest and even 200 of them scale the peak in a single day. He equated the scaling of Everest in this way with fast food where everything is served ready for the people to scale the highest peak.
The participants have simply to trek from the base camp to the top of the world on a route prepared and secured with fixed ropes to facilitate the climb.
In this context he appreciated the passion of Nirmal Kumar to scale Kangchenjunga and Manaslu peaks just after scaling the Everest. He hoped that Nirmal would unfurl the national flag on more and more 8000m peaks (death zone peaks) in future.
Other guests also spoke and gave valuable suggestions regarding promotion of mountaineering and sport climbing by the club besides wishing Nirmal Kumar, Ambreen Fatima and Narmita Katoch all the best for their future ventures.
Prominent among others present included Vivek Chauhan, Administrator, Oriental Academy Senior Secondary School; Suman Lata, Director Physical Education, Government College for Women, Parade, Jammu; Yogeshwar Kumar, vice president; Mohsin Andravi, joint seccretary; Sushil Singh, treasurer and Navneet Gupta, member of Mountaineering Association of J&K; Sumit Khajuria, a promoter of adventure sports and Sonam Sidharth, joint secretary of Tawi Trekkers.
