Jammu, May 13:
A delegation of Team Jammu led by its Chairman, Zorawar Singh Jamwal today met Deputy Commissioner, Jammu and demanded immediate blacktopping of Jammu-Akhnoor road from Paloura to Pawan Ice Cream Chowk besides adequate deployment of Traffic personnel to stop endless traffic chaos being witnessed by city residents on every passing day.
During interaction, Chairman, Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal apprised DC, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar (IAS), that traffic chaos and poor condition of the roads in Jammu city and especially Jammu-Akhnoor road which work on widening of highway is moving on snail’s pace, which has further consequently added to the miseries of people in Winter Capital of the State.
“Because of ongoing work on widening of Jammu-Akhnoor road and diversion of traffic on Shakti-Nagar Shamshan Ghat road, commuters on this stretch and people of the locality have been facing tremendous problems. Condition of the Shamshan Ghat road from Wallmart Best Price to Pawan Ice Cream is too bad to safely drive on this stretch. Diversion of traffic on this road and extremely bad condition of this stretch have made the area prone to accidents, unsafe and highly polluted because of dirt,” pointed out Zorawar Singh Jamwal and added that “the condition of general public which is more than 50, 000 in number living in Talab Tillo, Shakti Nagar, Shiv Nagar, Toph Sher Khania, Mandlik Nagar, Paloura area is that if someone is hurt in road mishap or gets ill, he/she cannot be shifted to nearby GMC Hospital because of traffic chaos, which unfortunately seems to have become order of the day”.
“The situation can be gauged from the fact that sometimes it takes hours together to cover a distance of one or two kilometers as vehicles remain stuck in the traffic jams. In this scorching heat, thousands of children coming from schools are worst suffers of these frequent traffic jams. The and children and local population including women and elderly lot are also becoming victim of dust allergy, which is at alarming state,” said Zorawar Singh Jamwal and demanded immediate intervention with strict direction to immediate blacktop the road besides adequate deployment of Traffic personnel.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal further detailed that because of no sufficient parking lots in the city, vehicles are found stranded on the already congested city roads thus making it difficult for even pedestrians to have a safe walk.
Poor condition of roads is multiplying the traffic chaos, with the result that Jammu city roads have become not only irritant but also dangerous for driving. Big potholes on the roads because of no repair works invite accidents and sometimes prove to be death traps. The members of Team Jammu appealed DC, Jammu, to take cognizance of the difficulties being faced by the people and issue necessary instructions to the concerned departments, particularly the construction company which has taken over the work of constructing flyover and road widening of Jammu-Akhnoor road, Traffic Police and PWD (R&B) for streamlining of the vehicular movements and adequate repair of roads.
DC, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar gave a patient hearing and assured the delegation that soon a meeting of senior officers would be convened to review the ongoing work and time bound directions would be passed so that people don’t suffer any further hardships.
Among others present on the occasion included Rakesh Mishra, Rattan Singh, Surinder Sharma, Mangal Singh, Kamal Kumar, Puran Chand, Sanjay Verma, Ashok Kumar, Harsh Sharma and Vikka Sharma.
