To create awareness among the youth of Jammu Province, particularly the young students about the menace of drug addiction and its harmful effects on social life, a mega programme was conducted today at IECS Polytechnic, Purkhoo Camp, Domana.
Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Chairman, Team Jammu who is also a member of State Level Monitoring Committee to control Drug abuse in Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion who delivered a lecturer on the burning topic. He explained to the students, how this menace is spreading at a very fast pace in northern Indian states particularly here in Jammu and Kashmir state. He stressed upon the role of parents as well as teachers in protecting the youth from falling a prey to this life consuming fatal habit of drug addiction.
While striking a direct chord with young students included girl students, Zorawar Singh Jamwal said that drug addiction is destroying younger generation of the State and it is need of the hour to evolve a consensus how to deal with this deadly menace. He said that drug abuse in J&K is part of narco-terrorism, imported from the neighbouring Pakistan to spoil youth of the State.
Chairman of the Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal further observed that this menace has consumed lives of hundreds of youth in Jammu region and it has gripped younger generation in its grip but those at the helm of the affairs are still in deep slumber. He reiterated demand of the Team Jammu to break the strong nexus of drug mafia with other influential sections of the society.
He also advised the institution management to conduct lecturers on this topic and provide counselling session for the students from time to time so that they remain away from killer habit.
Inspector, Rajeshwar Singh Salathia, SHO, Police Station, Domana, also conducted an inter-active session with the students. He elaborated upon the evils of Drug abuse and how it is spreading its tentacles in this region. He called up on the students to come forward and inform police wherever they see any suspicious movement be around their educational institutions or around their residential localities.
Earlier, Er. K.G. Gupta, Principal IECS Polytechnic welcomed the dignitaries while Er. Ajay Singh Jamwal, Dean Administration and Placement presented the vote of thanks. Others present on the occasion included Er. Amit Sharma, Vice-Principal, Er Gurbachan Singh and Er H N Bhat, Heads of various Department and faculty members.
