Srinagar, July 15 :
Thousands of Shia Muslims took out the 8th day Muharram process from the traditional Guru Bazar to Dalgate Srinagar route amid foolproof security arrangements in place on Monday.
For the second consecutive year the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Sunday granted permission for the procession from Guru Bazar to Dalgate via Budshah bridge and M.A Road, Srinagar.
Attired in traditional black the mourners including men, women and children were beating their chess and reciting religious hymns were seen marching on the roads holding flags from Guru Bazar to Dalgate.
The administration has placed in adequate arrangements including water, health and other facilities at various places on the route.
Security forces are seen guarding the roads from the Guru Bazar to Dalgate including on Moulana Azad road on one side. The traffic on various routes either have been suspended are diverted to other routes in Srinagar to allow peaceful culmination of the Muharram procession.
High security and civil administration officials were also marching with the Muharram procession.
