Tawi Trekkers J&K, the biggest trekking club of J&K, would give more thrust to adventure picnics and short treks to Heritage sights of Jammu, especially in Mohore Garh-Mansar and Jungle Gali areas, for school students during the current year.
This was announced by president of the Club, Ram Khajuria while highlighting the details of activities included in the calendar of activities of the Club for the year 2020, which was released in a simple but impressive function held at K L Saigal Hall, Abhinav Theatre, here.
Chairman of Tawi Trekkers J&K, Anil Goswami, former Union Home Secretary, released the calendar of activities along with co-chairman of the Club, Zorawar Singh Jamwal; patron of the Club, Rahul Sharma; Rameshwar Mengi (Principal, Shiksha Niketan group of Schools); Vivek Chauhan (Principal, Oriental Academy); Dr. C K Khajuria (former general secretary, Mountaineering Association of J&K), Everester Ram Singh, Sushil Singh, Sumit Khajuria and Sonam Sidharth (senior members); Shakti Singh Jamwal (a veteran sports person), Rakshan Mengi (Managing Director of R M Public School) and Hari Krishan Dhar (Principal, Shastri Memorial School).
Highlighting the activities to be undertaken by the club this year, president of the Club, Ram Khajuria mentioned that this year the club shall organize three trekking expeditions in Dhauladhar Range in Himachal Pradesh including one to Triund (10000ft) for Junior members and an expedition to Minkiani Pass (14000ft) for senior members and a trek from Dalhousie to Chamba exclusively for senior citizens. Besides, a Heritage Trekking Programme in Kangra area of Himachal Pradesh shall also be organized for about 200 students during the months of October to December, 2020.
Another challenging adventure of the club is an ambitious 10 days high altitude trekking expedition in Stok area of Leh. The club plans to depute only 10 members for this prestigious expedition. Besides, the club shall also organize a small, low budget mountaineering expedition to Mun peak in Dhauladhar range of Dharamshala.
A state level sport climbing competition exclusively for women shall also be conducted by Tawi Trekkers at sprawling buds ICSE School in the month of July, 2020 besides an Open Union Territory level sport climbing competition in October, 2020.
Prominent among others present on the occasion included Yogeshwar Kumar, vice president of Mountaineering Association of J&K, Mridhu Padha, Vice Principal, St. Xavier Senior Secondary School, Barnai,; Suman Lata, Director Physical Education, Government College for Women, Parade; Shivani Charak, an international medalist in sport climbing; Abhimanyu Sherpa and Sakshi Magotra, joint secretary and assistant secretary of the Club respectively, Sunil Chakharia and Sourav Deep Singh, both mountaineers, Mrityunjay Sharma, Ajay Deep, Arun Deep Singh and Shilpa Charak, all international climbers and Virender Magotra, a founder member of the club.
The function was very ably anchored by Himani Choudhary, a senior member of the club.
