Aiming to provide irrigation water to farmers, DDC member Suchetgarh, Tajinder Singh Tony today kick-started desilting of tributaries of Ranbir canal from Baja Chak to Gharani in Suchetgarh area here today.
The DDC member informed that the desilting of Ranbir Canal in Suchetgarh will be carried out in three phases so that the irrigation water reaches the tail end. As per the past practice, the desilting work was carried out a single contractor which used to delay the things. He said that this time the desilting work was started in three phases so that the work will be completed in time bound manner and the purpose of desilting will be met.
“The Ranbir Canal, considered to be the lifeline of Jammu, was constructed in 1905 as the major source of irrigation for farmers in the region. The famous basmati rice of R S Pura owes its cultivation primarily to the canal,” he said.
The DDC member called upon the officers of Irrigation Department to work in close coordination to provide irrigation and drinking water facility to the people particularly those farmers who have their lands at the tail end. AEE Sisar Khajuria and JE Sunil Kainth of Irrigation Department were also present on the occasion.
Later, a deputation of SPOs also met the DDC member and apprised him of the problem being faced by them due to delay in releasing of their salaries.
The DDC member immediately took up the matter of SPOs of Arnia Police Station with the SSP Jammu, Shridar Patil and apprised him of the hardships being faced by them. Besides, he apprised the SSP Jammu about the problems of Village Defence Committees of Suchetgarh. He asked SSP Jammu to assign duties of VDCs of all villages under the realm of Suchetgarh on Naka and other purposes on rotational basis.
The SSP Jammu assured the DDC member that the issue of SPOs salaries will be resolved at the earliest and further assured that the duties will be assigned to all VDCs on rotational basis.
