JAMMU, May 11:
A heartfelt largely attended programme to observe 11th Death Anniversary of Ashok Sodhi, photojournalist of Jammu, was organized on Saturday by Jammu Working Journalists Association at K.L Sehgal Hall.
The programme was presided over by former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta as the Chief Guest.
The programme started with the laying of floral wreaths at the portrait of Ashok Sodhi by Kavinder Gupta, Dy Mayor Advocate Purnima Sharma, SSP Mohan Lal, Sohail Kazmi, Pardeep Dutta, Afzal Shah, Jagjeet Singh and several other social and political activists besides members from media-fraternity
Kavinder, while paying tributes to Sodhi, lauded his role and said that he performed his duty till last with utmost zeal and dedication.
He said that Sodhi was not only known for his professionalism but also for his participation in social activities besides getting always ready to help the needy.
He advised the working journalists to be careful and alert while performing their professional duties.
Kavinder Gupta said that Ashok Sodhi had laid down his life in the line of duty and has set up an example as well as standard of professional commitment.
Gupta said that media has played a sterling role in highlighting the depredations and atrocities of militants and thereby ensured total and complete public support to the Government against the militants.
Inna Sodhi, the daughter of Ashok Sodhi was also present on the occasion and paid emotional tribute and said that she is proud of her father and shall endeavour to follow his example in the life.
The programme was organized by Ashok Sodhi Memorial Jammu. On this occasion former DyCM also presented Ashok Sodhi memorial awards to journalists and photo-journalists.
State President, Shri Ram Sena, Rajiv Mahajan, who is also Editor-in-Chief of “Top News of J&K”, only English evening daily was awarded with best editor award by the media fraternity for the third consecutive year for thorough professional journalism.
The award was presented to Rajiv Mahajan by Kavinder Gupta.
Complementing Rajiv Mahajan for receiving award, Kavinder appreciated the writes up and information publishing in “Top News of J&K” daily that was a ‘must-read’ across the Jammu region with a strong and provocative voice. He commanded Rajiv Mahajan for having strong views always written with a passion.
Accepting the award, Rajiv Mahajan expressed thanks to the incredibly hard-working and brilliant journalists who make the newspaper a must-read across the political and public spectrum.
He said “Top News of J&K” is the only evening English newspaper in the Jammu region which remains the number one in circulation in evening and also available on as e-Paper, on Whatsapp, Facebook, Tweeter and Instagram.
