Tourism is backbone of State economy: Sethi

BJP State General Secretary Yudhvir Sethi on Thursday urged the government to devise industry friendly policy as the tourism is the backbone of State economy.
Sethi on Thursday led a delegation of hoteliers and BJP leaders from Ward No 19 called on Chairman Sanitation Committee JMC, Baldev Singh Billawaria and discussed issue of three-year user charges imposed by the Jammu Municipal Corporation to the hotels and lodges of Jammu city.
Yudhvir apprised the Chairman that the hotel industry is facing severe problems.
He said it is very difficult for the owners of lodges to pay user charges of last three years due to less occupancy in their hotels. He urged the Chairman Sanitation Committee to make mechanism by reducing the user charges and providing facilities to the hoteliers of the City of Temple so that they may not feel any inconvenience while paying the appropriate user charges.
The deputation also raised serious concern over the problems being faced by the hotelier of Jammu city which include shortage of power supply, dilapidated condition of drains and take steps in improving the sanitation in the Jammu city.
Sethi said that with the abrogation of Article 370, a long standing curse has been finished from the region. He blamed Article 370 and Article 35A for the lack of progress in various developmental and basic projects undertaken in the region. He alleged that J&K State has received much funds from the Centre in the past, but still there was lack of development. He said that this was utter mismanagement of funds as well bungling along with the partiality going on in the state for decades together, but this is going to end now.
He also said that the people are willing to come here, invest and participate in the development process. He said that while many old laws will be done away after October 31 and the region is set to explore new lease of life granted after seven decades.
Chairman Sanitation Committee JMC gave patient hearing to the deputation and assured that the problem would be looked in at the earliest.
The deputation comprised of Corporators Anil Massoom, Raj Kumar, Mahinder along with
Brij Lal Verma, Swarn Singh, Anil Gupta, Kartarnath and Anil Sharma.
