Transport Commissioner J&K, Vishesh Mahajan after taking over of charge as Transport Commissioner J&K today held an introductory cum review meeting to oversee the working of Motor Vehicles Department.
Among others, Regional Transport Officer Jammu Pankaj Bhagotra, Joint Transport Commissioner Vinay Samotra, Assistant Transport Commissioner J&K, ARTO (HQ), ARTO BOI (P&G) besides heads of all concerned sections attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, the Transport Commissioner emphasising the need to bring efficiency and transparency in delivery of services provided by the department and also stressed on the usage of technology initiatives for further improvisation of services provided by the department and directed all officers to put all out efforts to make all the services easily available to general public.
Regional Transport Officer Jammu was directed to enhance the enforcement measures to ensure that strict action is taken against vehicle owners and drivers found violating traffic regulations especially overloading, overcharging etc.
All RTOs/ ARTOs were asked to give wide publicity to Road Accident Victim Fund Policy, rectification of Black spots etc besides RTOs/ARTOs were also directed to conduct deep investigation along with other stakeholders about the causes/reasons leading to road accidents and submit genuine recommendations for improving the road safety to curb recurrence of such road accidents in future.
Earlier, the Transport Commissioner visited State of the Art Institute of Driving Training and Research (IDTR) at Ghaink, Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, to take stock of the progress on under construction driving tracks. He was informed by the concerned executing agency that out of six under construction tracks, four tracks for four wheelers including one track for two wheelers will be completed and handed over to the Motor Vehicles Department by end of December 2024. Further, the RTO was directed to start trial tests immediately after taking over the possession of trial tracks. This move will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the driving skill test of the future drivers. This will also ensure that multiple driving skills of Drivers are checked.
He was accompanied by Vinay Samotra, Joint Transport Commissioner, Jugal Kishor Pandoh, Joint Director, P&S, ARTO HQ and Executive Engineers of the PWD, Jal Shakti, PDD.
Later, the Transport Commissioner also visited the office of the Regional Transport Officer, Jammu and inspected various sections viz-a-viz Registration, Permits, Accounts etc. to oversee disposal of online services being imparted by the Motor Vehicles Department.
