District administration Udhampur has decided to focus on generating sustainable employment, increasing farmers’ income.
The Sector/Panchayat wise details of economic drivers in Agriculture and allied sectors for generation of employment potentials locally and to increase per- capita income and standard of living in rural areas were discussed at a meeting chaired by District Development Commissioner, Dr. Piyush Singla here today.
Threadbare discussions were held on the schemes being run by different departments, the modalities to extend maximum benefit to the famer community and the bottlenecks faced in the implementation process.
Promotion of self help groups run by UMEED and forming of self help groups for different activities under Sericulture, Horticulture, Agriculture, beekeeping were discussed in detail.
The DDC asked Coordinator UMEED to explore the possibility of forming the Sericulture self Help groups and to form Sericulture hubs and imparting training to the people in silk worm rearing.
The DDC further asked UMEED Coordinator, Sericulture department and Lead bank Manager to work in tandem to improve performance of sericulture sector.
The District Cooperative society was asked for the sale of local products through their outlets to provide market to local products. The RDD was asked to expedite the work on construction of Rural Haat.
The DDC exhorted upon the District heads of concerned departments to hold awareness campaigns across the district to educate the youth about the various welfare schemes launched by the Government of India.
DDC said that the unemployment is big challenge and asked the concerned to gear up the entrepreneurship process at grass root level and motivate the unemployed youths to start their own units.
DDC asked the concerned department to frame strategies where Administration can intervene to improve the livelihood of rural areas, capacity building of farmers, sharing of ideas, and exploration of farming potentials, steps required to make sick units functional.
The Departments were directed to lay stress on cash crop farming rather than traditional farming. Banks were asked to extend the loan facilities to farming community for commercial farming, Himayat group and JKEDI was asked to provide training in farming field to potential entrepreneurs.
Among others present were Additional District Development Commissioner, Ashok Kumar, Chief Planning Officer, Rajeev Bhushan, DD Employment, CAO, CHO, CAHO, LDM, Cluster Head JK bank, Coordinator Himayat and UMEED group, AD Fisheries and officers and officials of different departments were present.
