Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Reasi hosted an awareness lecture on cervical cancer causes and preventive measures. The programme was organized by Neena Abrol, General Secretary of “Unnat” NGO.
The session was led by Colonel Dr. Manoj Kumar Tangri, a gynecologic cancer surgeon from SRMS Medical College, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Ankush Abrol, Provincial Joint Secretary JKNC was the chief guest, and Dr Vikas Sharma, Zonal Secretary JKNC was the guest of honour. Whereas, Kulbhushan Singh Principal (JNV) Reasi presided over the occasion. Rahul Gupta and Manan Raina were the special invitees.
Addressing students and staff, Dr. Tangri emphasized the alarming statistics of cervical cancer, stating that globally, a woman dies every two minutes due to the disease, and in India, one woman succumbs to it every eight minutes.
Dr. Tangri highlighted the World Health Organization’s (WHO) campaign focused on HPV vaccination for girls aged 9-15, cancer screening for women, and timely treatment for those testing positive during screenings. He urged parents to gift their daughters (aged 9-26) the HPV vaccine on their birthdays and encourage women in the family to undergo cancer screening as a gift on their special occasions.
He stressed, “A healthy woman is the foundation of a healthy society, and a healthy society ensures a progressive nation.”
Dr. Tangri reassured that HPV vaccines and cervical cancer screening tests are readily available in most hospitals.
Speaking on the occasion, Sudarshan Abrol, President of Unnat said that our NGO is imparting teaching to the children to learn their own work. He also said that the government and Schools should come forward and encourage creative skills in children.
Earlier, the event began with a warm welcome of Dr. Tangri by Principal Kulbhushan Singh, who presented him with a bouquet. At the end of the lecture, the principal expressed gratitude to NGO “Unnat” and all attendees for their participation.
Dr. Tangri, a gold medalist with over 15 years of experience in gynecologic oncology, has made significant contributions not only in the Indian Army but also during his tenure with the United Nations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He has been honored with a Presidential commendation for his exemplary work in the medical field.
