To mark the occasion, Vishal Khatri Sabha today organized 23rd Bhandara at Utterveni. On this day, devotees traditionally take holy dips in revered water bodies to purify themselves.
They also perform rites to pay homage to their forebears. Apart from this, Ashadha Amavasya is an auspicious occasion for worshipping deities such as Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva.Speaking on the significance of day, Vishal Khatri Sabha J&K President Devender Seth said that this day marks special significance for Hindus to honour ancestors. Under this, devotees perform various rituals including Pitru Tarpan, Pind Daan, and organizing Gayatri Path for the salvation of departed souls.
It is considered ideal time to take a holy bath in the Ganga river. Devotees often invite priests and Brahmins to their homes, offering them sattvik food, clothes, and dakshina in the name of their ancestors. Various religious and spiritual activities are performed on Ashadha Amavasya. It is believed that worshipping and performing rituals on this day brings immense benefits.
Performing rituals and donating to Brahmins and needy people on Ashadha Amavasya is believed to liberate ancestors from the cycle of birth and death and grant them salvation, added Seth.Seth observed that in Sanatan Dharma, the tradition of donation has been practiced for centuries.
Religious texts and scriptures emphasize the importance of donation as an integral part of human life. People donate on special days for mental peace, fulfillment of desires, earning virtues, overcoming planetary defects, and receiving the blessings of God.However, the virtue of donation is attained only when it is given to a deserving person at the right time and with a sincere heart, added Seth.
