Srinagar, Sep 05 :
After Ganderbal, National Conference (NC) Vice President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday filed his nomination papers from Budgam constituency for the upcoming Assembly election.
Omar said that ‘contesting from two seats doesn’t reflect weakness’.
On Wednesday, he filed his nomination papers from Ganderbal constituency and later made an emotional appeal to voters by holding his cap in his hands and urging them to give him another chance to serve them.
The NC Vice President today travelled to Budgam along with his supporters and filed his nomination papers at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The former Chief Minister unsuccessfully contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election from Baramulla constituency and was trounced with a huge margin by jailed Independent candidate Engineer Rashid.
Talking to reporters after filing the nomination papers, Omar said that contesting on two seats is never a sign of any weakness.
“The workers requested through Agha Ruhullah Sahib (Srinagar MP) and Agha Mahmood Sahib, to contest the election from Budgam also. Especially after the results of Baramulla, my colleagues wanted to show that we are not contesting this election from a weak position. We are contesting from a position of strength,” the NC Vice President said.
“It is a sign of the strength of the National Conference. Because if there were any danger, perhaps, my colleagues would not have allowed me to contest from here. But their decision to have me contest from here is proof that whether it’s Baramulla, Srinagar, or Anantnag, today there is a wave in favour of the National Conference, Omar said.
We hope that when the votes are counted the National Conference will be successful here and wherever our alliance partners are, they will also be successful,” he said.
