New Delhi, Jan 04 :
As though the (Tech) cold war wasn’t already intense — a new leaked video (or probably a fake/rumoured one) is presently out there which showcases a smartphone alleged from Xiaomi that unfolds from both sides to become a tablet.
Evan Blass, the famous leakster on Twitter posted a video that shows an alleged foldable Xiaomi smartphone that unfolds into a tablet when fully opened. The foldable display wraps completely around the device, from the front to the back, and over one edge. The device in the video shows the device that can be opened up like a fat book and the display on the outer side.
Though there is no branding visible on the said device, the leak mentions Xiaomi as the maker of the handset. There is also no information about it being truly in test phase or a prototype model as yet.
If the said leaked video is true, we could be seeing Xiaomi leading the race again with folding display smartphones, just like it did with the Xiaomi Mi Mix, which was one of the first devices to show off an almost-bezelless design.
The device in the video shows a person using it in the dark, highlighting a MIUI-like user interface on a tablet-like device. He then folds it from both ends which then transforms the tablet into a smartphone.
If the video is true, there are a few too many questions that could arise:
Is Xiaomi going to showcase this at the CES?
If true, what about a case for it?
What protection is the glass using?
What is the life of the display?
Where are the rear cameras?
We shall follow this track closely to see what more information we can get about the said device. Till then, simply relax and take it with a pinch of salt as you definitely won’t see it release this year, unless the brand wants to throw a prototype to public for mass testing, at the consumer’s cost.
