After playing a lawyer in the Shahid Kapoor-starrer ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’, actress Yami Gautam will be seen portraying an intelligence officer in the upcoming film, ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’. Talking to a daily about her role in the film, Yami said that there are not too many films, which has actresses playing intelligence officers. The actress said that she had to prep hard to understand the layers of her character, as they are always on their toes. So, portraying such a character and making it look effortless wasn’t easy, she said.
On a general note, the actress shared that Indian cinema’s current phase is liberating for a creative artiste. Yami said that actors are pushing their boundaries and the audience is accepting the change. She also cited the example of ‘Vicky Donor’, in which she was seen opposite Ayushmann Khurrana. The film, directed by Shoojit Sircar, revolved around sperm donation.
Elaborating further, Yami said that in today’s digital age, surprising the audience is a huge challenge for actors and filmmakers.Coming back to ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’, the military drama is based on the surgical strike that took place in Kashmir in 2016. The film has Vicky Kaushal in the lead.
