On the directions of Director Animal Husbandry Jammu Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the Extension & Publicity Wing of the Animal Husbandry Department Jammu organized an awareness seminar on World Rabies Day at the Veterinary Hospital, Samba.
Among others the seminar was attended by school-students, pet owners and other stakeholders, besides officers and officials of the Animal Husbandry Department.
The Extension Officer Dr. Suresh Kumar highlighted the significance of World Rabies Day and stressed the need for sustained public awareness about rabies prevention to achieve zero Dog Mediated Human Deaths by 2030. VAS Publicity Wing Dr. Sandeep Kumar sensitized participants about rabies, its symptoms in animals, prevention and control measures, besides dispelling common myths and misconceptions associated with the disease. Dr. Nitish Bhatti explained the Pre-Exposure and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis protocols, including vaccination and treatment measures following exposure to a suspected rabid animal.
The seminar concluded with a strong message that rabies is preventable through vaccination, responsible pet ownership and timely post-exposure care. Collective awareness and prompt action are vital to saving human and animal lives and moving towards a rabies-free society.
Earlier, Director Animal Husbandry Jammu, Dr. Sanjay Gupta inaugurated a Free Anti-Rabies Vaccination Camp organized at the Central Veterinary Hospital, Talab Tillo, Jammu where pets were administered free of cost anti-rabies vaccines in the presence of senior officers and staff from the hospital.
Director Animal Husbandry Jammu, while interacting with pet owners on the occasion, emphasized the importance of responsible pet-ownership, regular vaccinations and seeking timely veterinary care after suspected exposure of pets and livestock, for preventing rabies and ensuring well-being of pets and the community.
