SAMBA, JUNE 24:
Deputy Commissioner Samba Ayushi Sudan chaired a review meeting to assess flood preparedness and finalise preventive measures ahead of the monsoon season.
The meeting focussed on strengthening inter-departmental coordination for effective flood management and minimising risks in vulnerable areas across the district. The DC directed Revenue, Police, Health, Irrigation and Flood Control and other line departments to maintain close coordination for prompt response during any flood-related emergency and remain fully prepared to safeguard life and property.
Ayushi Sudan reviewed the status of ongoing flood mitigation works, including desilting of rivers and nallahs, construction and strengthening of embankments, retaining walls and identification of flood shelters. The Irrigation and Flood Control Department briefed the chair on progress at vulnerable locations across the district.
All flood protection works are to be completed well before the onset of heavy rains. Officers concerned were directed to earmark adequate funds for protection measures within their respective jurisdictions, particularly at spots requiring immediate attention, maintain a close watch on water levels and establish an effective early warning mechanism for timely dissemination of alerts to residents near rivers and nallahs.
The DC further directed departments concerned to conduct awareness campaigns in flood-prone areas to educate residents about flood risks, safety protocols, evacuation procedures and emergency response measures.
Among those present were ASP Garu Ram, PO ICDS Rajesh Lakhan, ACR Samba, GM DIC, ACD, SDMs, Executive Engineers of Irrigation & Flood Control, Irrigation and Jal Shakti (PHE) and other officers concerned.
