Under Project Bharat Mata, the NGO Goonj Sewa Samiti extended financial aid and relief materials to families affected by recent Pakistani shelling in the border region of Pargwal, under the Akhnoor constituency.
Led by Retired Major Khushboo Patani, the initiative focused on helping families whose homes were severely damaged, livestock lost, or resources destroyed. One family’s entire mud house and stored grains were reduced to ashes during the shelling, for which special support was provided.
Volunteers including Vinkal Sharma, Atul Sudan, Pawan Manhas, Utam Singh, Sushil Sharma, Vishal, Surjeet Singh, Ganesh Lal, Satpal Sharma, and Banarsi Lal personally visited the affected families, assessed the damages, and ensured the timely distribution of ration kits and financial aid.
Vinkal Sharma stated, “While the government is doing its part, we too bear a responsibility to support our fellow citizens during such challenging times.
This effort is a small tribute to Bharat Mata from fellow Indians.”
Local residents expressed deep gratitude towards the Goonj team, noting that the NGO was the first to step in with help even before official aid arrived, setting an inspiring example of humanity and solidarity.
